Spectator sports
For sports addicts – but also for sports lovers by proxy, the Zurich marathon is very impressive and goes through the city every year in April. Along the same lines, the Ironman Switzerland is the largest triathlon in Switzerland ( 3.8 km swimming, 180 km cycling and 42.2 km of running…an experience which is definitely more pleasant to watch than experience…). Zurich also organises an international athletics event, the ‘Weltklasse Zürich’ which welcomes the international stars of the discipline. Other international stars to look at, those of ‘fun’ sports – snowboarding, FMX, skiing, skateboarding, all of which are a bit extreme – can be found at Freestyle.ch, every year in September.
