Zurich, the economic boom

Numerous religious refugees settled in Zurich, bringing with them their skills and business connections. In this way, the city became an important centre for textiles. The Industrial age followed on from this which notably the building of the main train station, which opened Zurich to the world. Thanks to the structures put in place, to a large part by Alfred Escher, Zurich developed into a centre for transport, research, business and culture.
