Zurich, Swiss canton
In 1336, with the help of local craftsmen, Rudolf Brun, member of the nobility, overthrew the municipal council and founded the Guild Constitution. In this way, these guilds exerted a certain political influence from the end of the 14th century up until the French Revolution. Still thanks to Rudolf Brun, Zurich joined the Swiss Confederation in 1351.
